Linde
Lift Truck Pours Molten Aluminum by Remote Control!
Metallwerke
Harzgerode GmbH, German automobile industry supplier, had a very
difficult problem to solve. They needed to transport large 5-tonne
ladles, containing molten metal from the furnace to foundry but
the temperature of the die-casting machines is too high to drive
up to in a truck.
Linde solved
the problem by designing and manufacturing a customised truck with
remote control mast incorporating a Kaup tilting and rotating ladle
handler, with sideshift. The operator drives the truck up to the
casting machine then directs the ladle, suspended on the mast into
the correct position, once positioned at about 3.5 metres high the
operator tilts the ladle to pour 700°C aluminum alloy into the
casting machine - all by remote control!
Metallwerke
Harzgerode GmbH demands the utmost flexibility, working to just-in-time
delivery of 700 tonnes of die-castings per month for two major automobile
manufacturers in Germany. The company placed its first order with
Linde in 1997 for a dedicated heat-shielded foundry version of the
Linde H120 lift truck, customised for the job by an operator's compartment
set 500mm higher than the standard machine, a modified mast and
remote control unit to operate the casting ladle attachment. "We
were so satisfied with the Linde truck that we decided on Linde
for the additional truck," said the managers of the melting
plant. "Above all, we need a truck that is reliable, because
ladle handling is an integral part of our internal process chain.
Failure of the 12-tonne diesel truck would bring output to a halt
and have a fatal impact on the tight time frame of our production
operations. Because of that, our choice again fell on Linde as the
manufacturer and Lindig Fördertechnik as our service partner."

At Metallwerke
Harzgerode GmbH molten aluminium is transported in huge ladles and
poured into die-casting machines by a Linde H120 lift truck of 12
tonnes capacity.
