Linde
nets Viamax Order
Viamax, a subsidiary
of Transnet, has purchased an impressive range of Linde container
handling equipment.
Tendering against
strong international competition, Linde Heavy Truck Division, part
of the Linde Materials Handling Group, one of the largest material
handling companies worldwide, was awarded the substantial order
last year.
The state-of-the-art
equipment comprises eight 42 Tonnes reach stackers; two 36 Tonnes
gantry mounted container handlers; and six 16 Tonnes general-purpose
heavy-duty forklifts.
Executive Director
for Viamax, Malcolm Yeomans says, 'Linde's 16-strong equipment range
will replace Transnet's existing machinery which comprises of Kalmar
and Fantuzzi trucks that are now outmoded. The new equipment, which
is both modern and technically advanced, will streamline Transnet's
container handling operations and significantly enhance the organisation's
efficiency, particularly with regard to the speed with which the
various tasks are conducted."
The new Linde
models can be seen in action at Transnet's inland port based at
City Deep, at Pretcon in Pretoria, at its Nissan plant in Rosslyn
and at Rosslyn station.
'The criteria
on which we based our equipment choice were very stringent, and
of the companies tendering Linde best met these criteria,' Yeomans
contends.
'We are backing
a tried and tested supplier, as we have bought Linde Material Handling
equipment in the past and have been most satisfied with its performance
and after sales support.'
Linde's Sales
& Marketing Director, Adrian Clayton, explains, 'Having been
in operation at the Port of Durban's Maiden Wharf for over five
years is a fleet of Linde vehicles in the 10 to 16 ton range, on
full maintenance contracts."
We are delighted
to be able to complement the existing Linde fleet with the latest
container handling equipment, and look forward to continuing our
excellent working relationship with Viamax," he concludes.
